APPLICATION IN CONTEXT
The integrated WS500-J measures wind and ambient temperature, humidity and pressure (1–2). Rain measurement (3) and a rear-module temperature probe (4) are considered separately. Records from these different positions share a common time basis (5). 1. WS500-J · wind; 2. Same unit · ambient temperature, RH and pressure; 3. Optional separate rain measurement; 4. Separate probe · rear-module temperature; 5. Time-aligned records

Blue dashed lines show sensor measurement signals. Check radiation shielding for air temperature and humidity, attachment for module temperature, and structural interference for wind measurements.

These conceptual views explain flow direction. Actual piping, wiring and physical flow rates require a separate design.

01 — PROCESS

Where and what will be measured?

Define the intended use and conditions to identify the required role of each item.

01

Select the required measurements

Choose the measurements to be used for generation analysis, soiling assessment, and site operations.

02

Install each sensor appropriately

Review the effects of radiation, attachment to the module, and interference with the wind field from structures.

03

Inspection and integration

Check soiling, condensation, attachment condition, calibration, and communication quality.

02 — SELECTION

What should be selected and verified?

Ambient temperature, module temperature, wind speed and direction, and rainfall require different installation locations and maintenance. Compare the installation convenience, calibration, and fault response of integrated and separate sensor configurations.

Review sensor suitability against the objective, installation environment, calibration evidence, system configuration and supplier specifications.

03 — OPERATING CHECKS

Use measurement data to identify improvements.

Keep module and ambient temperatures distinct

The temperature difference is an important factor in interpreting power output. Name the data channels clearly.

Check the servicing requirements of integrated devices

Determine whether calibrating or repairing one sensor requires removal of the entire device, and assess the resulting data gaps.

Consider wiring and protection against water ingress

Check power supply, communications, grounding, surge protection, cable entry, and the environmental rating required at the site.

04 — QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Is an integrated device always preferable?

It simplifies wiring and installation, but may limit the optimal location for each measurement and the methods of calibration and replacement. Compare options against operating conditions.

Is measuring module temperature at one location enough?

Review representativeness and sensor quantity based on the array configuration, temperature variation, and assessment purpose.
